Dr. Anton Jansson of University of Gothenburg, co-director of the ISHASH network, was connected to SSAB as a guest researcher and visited our group in Brussels. Apart from workshops and discussions with the people at SSAB, Jansson visited CAVA and held an open lecture at the Royal Library of Brussels. In this lecture, which was connected to the postgraduate program Praktisch Humanisme, Jansson presented his own research into the intellectual history of atheism and secularism in Sweden. The discussions held during Jansson’s stay were very fruitful, and the importance of contrasting and comparing the various intellectual and institutional experiences of the secular in the smaller countries of Europe – such as Belgium and Sweden – is something which surfaced recurringly. Jansson’s stay this time was sponsored by the EU-funded university alliance EUTOPIA and will be continued with some mutual activities in 2024.
