Nyala Nauwelaers

Nyala Nauwelaers graduated from the history department of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2023. She has been affiliated with SSAB as a student researcher in that same year. She contributed to our research by cataloguing the disparate collections of freethinker periodicals up to 1940 in Belgium and assisting some members with other activities. The results of her work are available on our website and in the ODIS database.

As of the first semester of 2024-2025, as a PhD-student, Nyala is linked to our research group and the ULB-VUB joint research group Brussels Center for Religious and Secular Studies. She is the recipient of the ULB-VUB Seed Money Fellowship on the project ‘Social Time and Desacralization. On the Changing Nature of Sundays in Belgium.’
