Sofia Nikitaki
Biography
Dr. Sofia Nikitaki is researcher at the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, KU Leuven, where she is a member of the Pastoral and Empirical Theology Research Unit. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Theology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece, two Master’s degrees from the KU Leuven Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies and a PhD in Theology from the same institution. In addition to her studies, she has conducted an internship at the Central European University’s (CEU) Religious Studies Center in Budapest (2012), worked as a student researcher in interreligious dialogue for the Porticus foundation (2017), and holds the vice-secretariat position for the European Society for Women in Theological Research (ESWTR) since 2019. Her initial Master’s thesis (2014-2015) was an empirical exploration of the spirituality within the straight-edge milieu, while her second Master’s (Research MA, 2015-2017) focused on empirically exploring the relation between theology and religious studies in an academic context. Her doctoral research, conducted under the auspices of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO-aspirant), was a qualitative empirical exploration of nonreligion and nonreligious individuals in different European cultural contexts, and supervised by Prof. Dr. Annemie Dillen.
